Writing Tips: Spot the Difference 12: Lightening vs Lightning
I’ve seen this once a few times and Microsoft’s spellchecker is notorious for changing it to the wrong one!
Lightening: to become lighter or illuminate
Lightning: a brilliant electric spark discharge in the atmosphere, occurring within a thundercloud, between clouds, or between a cloud and the ground.
The sky lightened after the storm clouds cleared and lightning stopped.
